Is Genetic Testing right for me?

Lung cancer is a significant health concern that often goes unnoticed until it's too late. Between 2016 and 2020, it had the highest mortality rate among cancers across genders and races. We'll explore why catching lung cancer in its early stages is so important and how modern technology plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes. 

Whilst I was caring for my husband terminally ill with the disease of ALS, I was diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma stage three lung cancer. I was put in touch with the organization Hope Abounds.

I never planned on hearing the words, you have cancer. It came as a complete shock and surprise, and I felt like my world had been flipped upside down.

The Gift of Hope Charity Benefit was held on November 10, 2023 to support Hope Abounds Cancer Network.

Throughout my life, I have discovered many times that my thoughts or feelings about situations that I may have perceived one way have often been altered because of a scripture, advice from a friend, or simply with prayer. Often this shift in perspective touches my heart and clarifies my thinking.

We are so very excited to share our very first survivor story with you, and this extraordinary woman might look very familiar. We are honored to share with you the story of Savanna James, who was recently crowned Miss Summerville and will be going on to compete in the Miss South Carolina Pageant later this summer. Her platform is "Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention." How incredible is that? Her story is unique. It is a story about being a high-risk survivor.

In this video Dr. DuPree builds on the best practices to protect yourself and others, but dives deeper into the ways we can use this time to look introspectively, growth, and help others in this dire time of need. Life has changed almost instantly for most humans on the planet and in times of great chaos and strife it is important to find the light.

Hope Abounds feels blessed to have the ability to donate surgical masks during a time when medical supplies are running low and are very hard to come by to various partners in Wilmington, NC including Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington Surgical Associates and Assisted Care at Home.

In this story, I relate the life of a cancer patient to Dorothy.  In the beginning, we find Dorothy, a very happy young woman who belonged to a wonderful hard working family that loved her deeply, but they were very busy with day to day demands.   She feels she is not being heard regarding a threat that has been made about her beloved dog Toto. This threat comes from the dreaded "Ms. Gulch" who is determined to bring harm and see to his demise. In our work, this threat would be the dreaded diagnosis of cancer for the many individuals we serve on a daily basis.
