HOW TO CHOOSE AN ACCURATE AND HELPFUL HEREDITARY CANCER TEST FOR YOUR PATIENTS
Objectives:
Participants will be made aware of the differences in gene inclusion between labs on hereditary cancer panels and what this means for clinical practice.
Participants will briefed on the varying abilities of laboratories to detect important genetic/variants, and how to determine which labs provide better detection capabilities for their patient population.
The topics of genetic variant classification, reclassification and amended reporting laboratory practices will be reviewed, allowing clinicians to better determine which tests provide the clinical approaches best matching the practice style of the clinician.
The positive Predictive Value of hereditary cancer tests will be reviewed, with results disclosure language modeled for clinicans that will assist them in communicating Pathogenic hereditary cancer test results which may be downgraded to benign by the laboratory in the future.
Participants will be made aware of financial aid and multilingual support features available at many labs to assist their patients in the genetic testing process.
Program Description:
